KS Ravikumar’s Lingaa starring Rajinikanth, Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty has been widely appreciated by fans and critics alike. But if you had to pin point at a weak chink in the armour, it has to be it’s over long length. The makers were quick to rectify that as they trimmed down the length of the film by 12 minutes after the opening day, which meant majority of Rajini fans missed out on plenty of Rajini magic onscreen.

Diamond robbery scene
Within the first few minutes of the film we get to see a clever robbery scene which involves Rajini stealing a diamond from an exhibition. Many critics have pointed out that the robbery sequence is inspired from How to Steal a Million’ starring Peter O’toole and Audrey Hepburn. The scene where Rajini and Anushka are locked in a cupboard where Rajini uses magnet to get the keys has been deleted from the film.
Poet’s welcome at Solaiyur
When Anushka brings Rajini back to Solaiyur, Thalaivar gets a rousing reception at the village. Here a local poet, in greed of a prize from the king’s heir (Rajini) recite poems of Vaali and Vairamuthu as his own. How Thalaiavar teaches him a lesson is pretty funny. But, alas that scene has now been removed from Lingaa.
Rajini reprimands Sonakshi
Though the romance between Rajini and Sonakshi is one of the highlights of the film, their love story starts with a tiff. The scene where Sona accidentally pours coffee on the dam’s blue print, leading to Rajini scolding her off has been removed from the film.
Sonakshi teaches Maths teacher a lesson
In order to teach a lesson to the strict Maths teacher, who beats village children, Sonakshi lays a trap for his car. But unfortunately it is Rajini who falls prey to Sona’s prank. This scene has been deleted too.
Guests arrival scene at Raja Lingeswaran’s birthday party
After quiting from the post of British collector, for not getting an approval to build a dam for the people, Rajini throws a big party on his birthday, where it is revealed that he was not only a collector but also a king Raja Lingeswaran. The sequence where British officials arrive in great numbers to his party, has been deleted.
Climax scene – Rajini’s jump onto hot air balloon
And finally, we come to the climax of Lingaa, which like any other Rajini movie climax, is epic. Kudos to the makers for trimming out the unintentionally hilarious scene where Rajini jumps off the cliff with his bike and lands on to a hot air balloon.
