Priya Anand: Oru Oorla Rendu Raja is special for me

Priya Anand gets chatty about her upcoming comedy entertainer in an exclusive interview with Bollywoodlife

Her next film is up for release on November 7 and she is quite excited. As Priya Anand talks about her experience in the director Kannan’s Oru Oorla Rendu Raja (OORR), you can see that this movie is close to her heart in more ways than one.

Ask her about OORR starring herself, Vemal, Soori and Vishaka Singh, and Priya says, “I play a doctor who’s socially aware and conscious and she’s very righteous. She is trying to do the right thing for people. It’s a story over two days and the love portions unfold over two days – the love track is very subtle and I really like that.”

A train plays a big role in the film which was shot mostly in Mayavaram, south Tamil Nadu. “We shot in my home town, Mayavaram, and it was so special because my grandfather is from there and I lost him a year ago. I visited all the places that he would have been hanging out with his friends and that was really fun,” she adds.

Shooting with Vemal, Soori, Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser was an experience to remember says the petite beauty who did more than just don the greasepaint for OORR – she was also involved in other aspects like editing, choreography and costumes. Having come into the film industry wanting to be an assistant director, learning these aspects of film production was a major plus. “I have the aptitude to grasp a lot of things and it was very nice of director Kannan to see that in me and give me the opportunity to learn. A lot of directors and will be very possessive about their product but this speaks volumes about Kannan as a person and his creativity. He is very secure in what he does,” explains Priya.

As for why she signed on OORR, the actress says, “Sometimes I sign a film because it’s a big director or I want to work with an actor. In this movie it was to be more actively involved in the script. I even have a solo song in this film when heroines hardly get solo songs. Director Kannan involved me so much in the movie and that was very special for me.”

So how different is this role in OORR as compared to her earlier films? “The major difference is that I usually tend to play an urban, upscale college or NRI girl. Ethir Neechal got me the most recognition as middle class Tamilian girl and after that role it’s in OORR that I once again I play a similar role. I have a very strong role in this film so I hope I can hold the scenes together and get good reviews from the audience. As heroines, a lot of times we complain that we don’t get meaty roles but you have to be capable of holding the scenes together and the audience’s attention. And I hope I have!”
