Genelia D’souza has no time for Malayalam films

Though Genelia has moved the box office in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, it is with her Malayalam debut that she won critical acclaim

Santosh Sivan’s Urumi fetched accolades for the Genelia’s acting talents. And naturally, the Boys star became a much sought out actress in Mollywood. However, Genelia doesn’t seem to have much time to spare for Malayalam. She has been politely turning down many roles, we are told. “Following Urumi, I did get a lot of offers from Malayalam, but frankly, managing films in several industries can become a little hectic. So, I decided not to take them up.” Now, Genelia is starring in Velayudham, a Tamil film opposite Vijay. She is also working on the Hindi remake of Kollywood blockbuster Kaakka Kaakka, which has John Abraham playing the lead role. “In Velayudham, I play a television journalist. While in the Bollywood version of Kaakka Kaakka, I play a social activist. The teacher character Jyothika played in the original version has been changed into that of a social worker,” she says.
