Arrambam movie review: Ajith sizzles in a tailor-made role

Style makes the man. And no man more so than Ajith. Since the time his Arrambam went on the floors, the expectations have been huge with regard to the film directed by Vishnuvardhan of Billa fame.

Ajith has teamed up with Arya in this high-voltage entertainer and the director has put all his faith on the Ajith’s star power to drive the movie.‘Thala’, as he is known affectionately among fans, struts around in his inimitable style and proves to be the heart and soul of the movie.

It is an action-based subject and there is nary a dull moment, though the editing towards the end could have been crisper.The story goes like this: Ashok aka AK (Ajith), with the help of Maya (Nayanthara), abducts Arjun (Arya), a highly intelligent hacker. Taking Arjun’s help, Ashok makes sure that the the network of a huge media group is hacked. Later, Arjun comes to know that Ashok had a hand in the serial blasts in Mumbai. However, Arjun can’t get away because he and his fiancee (Tapsee) are in Ashok’s custody. Even as he pretends to take Ashok’s orders, Arjun comes up with a plan to ‘trap’ Ashok so that he is caught by a police team led by Prakash (Kishore).

Subsequently, Arjun learns about Ashok’s past. Ashok had been a police officer, who was cheated by a Minister (Mahesh Manjrekar), a top police official (Atul Kulkarni), a media baron and a journalist (Suman Ranganathan). Now, Arjun decides to help him. They get down to work and come to realise that the Minister is planning to cheat the country on a bigger scale. The climax is a racy affair and keeps the audience glued to their seats.

Ajith’s daredevil stunts are a highlight of the film and he has shown the courage to feature in a film that has no romance or duets for him. He sizzles in a role tailor-made for him. Arya provides ample support and takes a lot of credit too. Nayanthara and Taaspee do what is expected of them while the star-studded cast fits the bill.

Strangely, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs don’t rise to the occasion while his BGM contributes to the thrills. All in all, Vishnuvardhan has packaged his movie around Ajith’s charisma and has come up with a winner.
