Yash Raj Films and Disney UTV announce 2014 slates

Movies like Gunday, Jagga Jasoos, P.K., Kill Dil, Mardaani and Bewakoofian release next year, and also Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani. Read on to know more

Bollywood aficionados are in for a treat as the country’s biggest studios have revealed their release schedules. For the first time, Disney UTV will release three family friendly films with Disney branding rather than UTV branding. Exact dates were not announced. First up will be P.K., which marks the reunion of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan after the smash hit 3 Idiots.

Ranbir Kapoor and his plagiarist Barfi! director Anurag Basu will also reunite for Jagga Jasoos that also stars Kapoor’s beau Katrina Kaif. Described as “a musical comedy about a young detective and his zany adventures”, the film begins principal photography in November and is currently slated for release in the last quarter of 2014. Disney UTV has ambitious ideas for the film and say that “Jagga Jasoos has the potential to emerge as the first Disney branded franchise out of India, with long-term plans to create sequels, merchandise, graphic comics, a television show, online games and much more.”

The last Disney branded film for 2014 with be ABCD 2, the sequel to Remo D’Souza’s Prabhu Deva-starrer Any Body Can Dance. The film is partly set in the US and D’Souza recently made a trip to the Walt Disney studio in Los Angeles to discuss ideas with Disney and Marvel senior executives.

With P.K., Jagga Jasoos and ABCD 2, we are confident we have a slate of movies that capture the essence of the Disney brand – heartwarming, uplifting and fun for the whole family. Meanwhile, Yash Raj Films have announced release dates for six films, with a seventh to be confirmed. Gunday, starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar with music by Sohail Sen, will release on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Bewakoofian, starring Rishi Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana and c, directed by Nupur Asthana with music by Raghu Dixit, releases March 14.

Daawat-E-Ishq, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra, directed by Habib Faisal with music by Sajid-Wajid, will release May 9.

Mardaani, the latest comeback attempt by Rani Mukerji, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, is out on July 18.

Director Shaad Ali will attempt to erase memories of Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom with Kill Dil, starring Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar, Parineeti Chopra and Govinda, with music by by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Gulzar. The film releases on September 5.

Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, starring Sushant Singh Rajput is out December 12 and Banerjee’s former assistant Kanu Behl’s Titli, starring Ranveer Shorey and Amit Sial, shortly after.
