Vinod Khanna passed away at 11:20 am today. He was 70. He will not only be remembered for his work in Hindi cinema, but also for his affiliation with Indian politics. Vinod was the Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Lok Sabha from Gurdaspur in Punjab. He was into his fourth term as a parliament member. Along with the film fraternity, political figures are also mourning Vinod’s demise.
President Pranab Mukherjee mourned the death of veteran Bollywood actor-turned-politician, who died in a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness. “Heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Vinod Khanna, a highly talented and acclaimed actor and MP,” the President tweeted.
PM Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message. “Will always remember Vinod Khanna as a popular actor, dedicated leader & a wonderful human. Pained by his demise. My condolences,” he wrote.
“Shri #VinodKhanna ji was a great actor and a gentleman politician – will miss him,” wrote Minister of Finance, Defence and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley.

From the film fraternity, Sanjay Dutt, Rajinikanth, Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khurrana and many others have expressed their grief over the veteran’s demise. Sanjay said in a statement, “It is saddening to hear of the demise of Vinod Khanna ji. I have watched him as a child and throughout my life was always fascinated by his style and charisma. He was always a thorough gentleman. A big loss to the fraternity. He is and always will be family to the Dutts. May his soul rest in peace. Vinod Khanna was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai on April 2, 2017. He passed away today in the morning. The hospital issued a statement that read, “Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Mr. Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma.”
