Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt‘s Badrinath Ki Dulhania has beaten Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania at the box office on day 2. After the triumph on day one, BKD continues its magical run at the box office. It witnessed a slight growth and collected Rs 14.75 crore on day 2. When you compare this with the day two collection of Humpty (Rs 11.25 crore), you will realise what we are talking about. With that, our speculation that the sequel will have a better opening than the prequel at the box office is being proved right.
Varun and Alia are currently one of the most loved jodis in Bollywood. After Humpty, everyone was eager to see them in a movie once again. And so, Dharma came up with the second part of the franchise – Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Though very different from the first part, the essence of the franchise is still intact in terms of the love, romance, twists and turns. As always, everyone figured that Badrinath would witness a bigger opening than its prequel because of the franchise factor. But people have to realise that Varun-Alia’s popularity has also increased ever since Humpty. We knew that these two factors would give the sequel an upper hand and looks like that’s what has happened! However, we will have to keep a close look at how well Badrinath Ki Dulhania sustains and grows in the coming few weeks. Humpty had a relatively free run and earned Rs 76 crore at the box office in its lifetime run. Will BKD be able to beat that? From our reckoning, Badrinath Ki Dulhania will easily make Rs 100 crore at the box office in its lifetime run. The movie has 3000+ screens at its disposal, it is carrying a tremendous buzz around it and people have been praising the movie. Apart from that, Varun and Alia’s movie also enjoys an extended weekend as Monday is a holiday (Holi).
