The Censor Board found the film inoffensive
Looks like all the religious and cultural organisations who sent letters to the Censor Board objecting to the content in A Flying Jatt have been sidestepped.
Barring one point of contention regarding a Sikh organisation’s objection, the complete content of Remo D’Souza’s A Flying Jatt has been cleared by the Censor Board with no cuts.
According to a source, “The content in AFJ was found to be fun and inoffensive. However, there were some scenes with violence. So, we granted it a UA certificate without any cuts. There was a scene for which the producers needed clearance from the gurdwara committee.”
Speaking exclusively on the matter CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, “We’ve cleared the film with no cuts. Regarding the clearance that one scene required from certain organisations, the producers have told us they’ve got the clearance. That is a matter between the producers and the organisation which raised objections to certain things. As the CBFC, we saw nothing objectionable in the film.”
Clearly religious and cultural protests against the content in a film falls outside the jurisdiction of the censor board, unless censorial guidelines are seen to be broken.
In June, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) wanted some scenes from The Flying Jatt to be deleted as they were “hurting Sikh sentiments”. The additional secretary of SGPC, Diljit Singh Bedi said the body objected to the hero’s turban, attire and ‘Khanda’ sign at the back of the superhero costume. They had written to the film’s producers in November, 2015 but did not get a reply. So, the body said it would take legal notice if the content was found to be objectionable. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, The Flying Jatt stars Tiger Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez and professional wrestler Nathan Jones in lead roles.
