The film is directed by Sabbir Khan.
The first trailer of Sabbir Khan’s Baaghi is out, and it will definitely blow your minds away! The film stars Tiger Shroff (in his second movie role) and Shraddha Kapoor with Telugu star Sudheer Babu playing the main antagonist!
The film shares its name with a Salman Khan hit of the ’90s, which was Baaghi: A Rebel For Love. The film had Nagma making her Bollywood debut, and had some chartbuster songs like Tapori, Chandni Raat Hai, Kaisa Lagta Hai etc. The makers want us to believe that the new Baaghi doesn’t share anything in common with this Salman Khan flick. And going by the trailers, we would like to believe them (except for the boy-rescuing-girl act!). The action sequences are terrific. With Tiger Shroff in them, you don’t expect any low standard stuff! However, the trailer also gives Shraddha Kapoor ample opportunities to display her action chops (check out the scene where she bangs a dude’s head on a glass frame multiple times!). The trailer also gives the fan boys and girl even chances to drool over both Tiger and Shraddha, as both are seen emerging from the ocean at different junctures of the promo. We won’t be wrong when we say Baaghi could be a path-breaking move for both, going by what we seen in the trailer!
Coming back to the trailer, one look at the video and you will realise that it plays ‘homage’ to a few other films from Hollywood (and one South).
Here are the five films the trailer reminded us of!
Karate Kid
Karate Kid was a cult teen action drama film of the ’80s that was remade a few years back with Will Smith’s son and Jackie Chan. The serious training parts of Baaghi surely reminded us of this still enjoyable flick…
Kung Fu Panda 3
…while the lighter moments of the trailer (the ones where Tiger is shown doing chores at the martial arts temple or his stepping stones during training) reminded us of this classic animation film. In this flick the loveable panda Po is made to do the chores around the house by Master Shifu to see if he is worth the task, before he is given serious training to be the next kung fu champ!
Raid: Redemption
Remember the scenes in the Baaghi trailer when it is shown where Shraddha is kept as a prisoner in the villain’s hideout? Remember that the hideout has several floors with each floor having various martial arts group and Tiger has to go through each level to get to his girl? Does that ring any bells for you? Then you must have definitely watched Raid: Redemption – the super cult action thriller of this decade!
The Protector
Tony Jaa is one of the best actions stars in South Asia currently, and many action scenes from Baaghi will remind you of some of Jaa’s flicks, especially The Protector (Yum Tom Goong). Tiger Shroff has surely proven that he is can easily perform as flexibly as Jaa in such scenes, making him one of the best action stars we have in India!
Varsham
The Wikipedia page of this hit Telugu film, starring Prabhas and Trisha (later remade into Tamil as Mazhai with Jayam Ravi and Shriya Saran) mentions that Baaghi is a remake of the film. Going by the plot from what we have seen in the trailer, we can say we somewhat agree – The villain and the hero are both obsessed with the heroine, the villain kidnaps the heroine and the hero goes out to rescue her from his clutches! But then this was also what Ramayana is all about…
