It is not surprising that eyes will be also on The Kapil Sharma Show, which is missing its three stalwarts – Sunil Grover, Ali Asghar and Chandan Prabhakar. Ali has moved out of the show in solidarity with Sunil, who reportedly was badly mistreated by Kapil Sharma on the flight from Australia to India. The Kapil Sharma Show’s Dr Mashoor Gulati is missing in action and fans are mighty displeased. New comedians like Raju Srivastava, Ahsan Qureshi and Sunil Pal were brought in as replacements but their reception was been lukewarm. The Kapil Sharma was the No.1 non-fiction show in India till Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs happened. The music reality show has a loyal audience over the years and boasts of some phenomenal talent. That coupled with the cute judges made it a hit. For more than a week, it has managed to dislodge The Kapil Sharma Show from its first rank in its category. The show like Kapil’s show took off to a great start landing in the top five. It is showing no signs of losing momentum and going from strength to strength. It is also helping ZEE in viewership tremendously. This week, the TRP of The Kapil Sharma Show is lower than 2.4. Should the channel be worried for the TRPs of the show? Sources say efforts are on to bring back Sunil, Ali and Chandan on the show by the channel authorities. Their contract is up for renewal in April and doubts are being cast on whether the channel will renew its mega contract with Kapil Sharma or not. The reported incidents of Kapil throwing a shoe in rage on Sunil Grover have brought a lot of bad publicity for the show and as predicted it is having an impact on the rankings. This is indeed a matter of great worry for Sony, which relies greatly on the TRPs of The Kapil Sharma Show for its ranking. The channel has some fabulous shows like Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and Beyhadh in its kitty but number-wise, The Kapil Sharma Show is what matters.
It is quite clear that the TRPs won’t remain unaffected by the changes and negative stories surrounding the show. More stories of creative director Preeti Simoes being on a break have also come out. Sunil Grover was one of the pillars of the show and it seems to be a tough climb for the show from now on. Like many say, making a successful product is relatively easier than sustaining it.
