Sudhir Mishra’s Aur Devdas to wrap up its shoot in Delhi

The Inkar director’s next Aur Devdas is scheduled to release next year

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra‘s  Aur Devdas, a political take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s most adapted novel, is all set to have its final schedule of shooting in Delhi from next month.

The Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi helmer, who shot 80 per cent of his film in Lucknow, said the film will most likely arrive in theatres by mid next year.”We have shot the film in most politically-active state UP and my shooting is almost 80 per cent complete. I will shoot the final 20 per cent in Delhi from next month,” Sudhir told PTI on the sidelines of NFDC’s Film Bazaar.

Mahesh Bhatt’s son Rahul is portraying the titular role of Devdas, which was earlier portrayed by Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and more recently Abhay Deol in the previous adaptations by Bimal Roy, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Anurag Kashyap respectively. In Aur Devdas, Fukrey star Richa Chadha will play Paro (Parvati) and Aditi Rao Hydari Chandni (Chandramukhi).

“I am very happy with the way the film has shaped up. All my actors are brilliant and they did a good job,” Sudhir, who is the grandson of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dwarka Prasad Mishra, said. The film is expected to be a melange of William Shakespeare’s and Chattopadhyay’s love tragedies and Mishra is focusing more on the power side of it.

Aur Devdas owes as much to Shakespeare as Sarat Chandra. Nobody understood the insidious effect of the virus called power than him,” Sudhir had tweeted last month. Sudhir, whose last outing Inkar dealt with the sexual harassment at the work place, is also looking forward to watch Marathi cinema in the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI). “After Film Bazaar gets over, I will head to IFFI next and catch Marathi cinema as much as possible. I heard that Marathi cinema is going through a new phase and coming out with good stories,” he said.
