Shraddha Kapoor’s dance, confusing nominations – 7 things about IIFA 2015 that disappointed us!

Was IIFA 2015 an exciting affair? Not really…

The promos of IIFA 2015 had been teasing with a lot of excitement, with a new hosting duo of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh and some exciting dance performances! But was it worth the wait?

I am afraid the answer would tilt towards the negative…No, the show wasn’t the blandest….we have seen worse…but it wasn’t the grandest and the best show ever, as many were proclaiming.

Here are 7 reasons why IIFA 2015 turned out to be the Bombay Velvet of award shows!

The Dance performances

When it came to dancing at IIFA, Hrithik Roshan, and to some extent, Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor managed to pass with flying colours. The less we speak about the other performances the better. Parineeti Chopra is no great dancer, and it showed. Anushka’s performance lacked heart! But the biggest disappointment was Shraddha Kapoor’s tribute to Subhash Ghai. But it’s our fault that we found the act disappointing. After impressing us in India’s biggest dance film, ABCD 2,  we had too much expectations from the actress! It’s not easy to deliver successes consistently, just ask Ranbir Kapoor!

No Khans, No Bachchans!

Shahrukh-Salman-Amitabh-060715

Call me biased, but Bollywood award functions can never be Bollywood without the Bachchans or the Khans. Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Saif (Aamir is, as always, out of question…unless it’s a function where he can never win an award, like the Oscars!) and the entire Bachchan khandaan were conspicuous by their absence. IIFA, how can you claim to be international when you can’t get even the national stars to attend your function?

Award Function or a 3-hour car advert?

S-Cross

The entire show felt like a tribute to S-Cross car, with awards and performances inserted as fillers! Each time they spoke about the car, it provided some really embarrassing moments for the viewers! And they claim IIFA are like Oscars!

Anil Kapoor’s over-enthusiasm and Jackie Shroff’s lack of it!

Anil-Kapoor-060515

We loved Anil Kapoor’s cheery over-enthusiasm when he attended the Oscars during the Slumdog Millionaire era. But overdoing it, kind of kills the fun, Anilji. What’s with all that shouting when you played tribute to Subhash Ghai? It’s like you are blaming us for the failure of Ghai’s last four films! Equally jarring was Jackie Shroff’s extremely cold demeanor. It’s as if he was forced to go on stage at gunpoint!

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor trying too hard?

ranveer arjun

Too much was riding on the hosting duties of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. They showed some promise during the AIB Roast and their bromance was endearing, so people were excited to see what they would at IIFA. hey weren’t bad, I felt they were trying too hard to be funny, especially Ranveer Singh. Agreed, it’s not easy to match Shah Rukh Khan-Saif Ali Khan’s charming and smooth finesse. Agreed, some of their jokes worked, like the Anushka Sharma’s PK-VK joke, the intro gag, the ‘slight’ digs on Aamir Khan and even the DDLJ spoof. But they were relying too much on the AIB Roast controversy, Ranveer’s alleged affair with Deepika Padukone etc to generate laughs. It’s time to move on, bros!

Confusing nominations

KK-menon-Ritesh-Deshmukh-060715

Why were Riteish Deshmukh and Kay Kay Menon nominated for both Best actor in a Supporting role as well as Best Actor in a Negative Role? Why is Varun Dhawan even nominated in the comic actors’ category, when he was the hero of the Main Tera Hero (That name should be a clue in itself!) Guys, please do respect our intelligence and cinematic sensibilities sometimes!

Irritating serial adverts

Serial

One thing I really appreciate about Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor is how they never cracked a smile while giving intro about the serials that’s about to be screened on Colors. For maintaining that poker-face as they praised the serials, they deserve an Oscar! It was like, if Virat Kohli is about hit a century, and suddenly he pauses to speak about Bombay Velvet!
