Pick your sides. It’s the battle of the sexes!
Fight sequences have always been a catalyst to the story or climax in Indian films. Or sometimes they are just there just for the heck of it. Did you know Shah Rukh Khan convinced Aditya Chopra to include a fight sequence in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge? Yep fight sequences are THAT popular, even a die-hard romantic film needs one. And it’s a whole different shade of kick-assery when it’s a female lead giving karate chops.
Mostly when a hero and heroine are in a one on one scene, the scene exists in a very different genre than action. What happens when our beloved hero and heroine are pitted against each other in a one on one combat sequence? Sheer elevation of pulse rate is what happens. Here is a list of our favorite one-on-one combat sequences, involving opposite sexes. Let the battle begin-
Shah Rukh Khan vs Priyanka Chopra – Don
Roma (Priyanka Chopra) finally gets the opportunity to kill Don (Shah Rukh Khan), who murdered her brother. Just when Roma is about to shoot Don, he hits her with a suitcase, and leaves her unarmed. But the bad-ass Roma doesn’t need any weapon, and Don and Roma engage in a hand to hand combat involving flying kicks and awesome martial arts techniques. Priyanka Chopra went through a lot of training for her role.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan vs Hrithik Roshan – Jodha Akbar
A misunderstanding between Jodha (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and Akbar (Hrithik Roshan) arises, which prompts Jodha to leave Akbar’s castle for her maternal home. On realizing his mistake Akbar pays a visit to Jodha to apologize. He catches her in a sword fight practice, and bets that he will win in a sword fight opposite her, and in return she’d have to come back with him. Jodha accepts the bet and hence ensues a Rajhsri Production level Mr. and Mrs. Smith fight rendition. Probably the most epic sword fight ever in Hindi film history also witnesses a few moments of ethereal romance, where Akbar just couldn’t stop glaring at Jodha.
Kajol vs Ashutosh Rana – Dushman
Naina Sehgal (Kajol) lures Gokul (Ashutosh Rana), who raped and killed her twin sister, in her home offering herself as the bait in order to kill him. She has earlier lost a court case against Gokul and killing him seems like the only way to bring him to justice. Sonia has thoroughly trained herself for this very moment, and when Gokul arrives, the battle begins in her very home. Gokul attempts to rape Naina as well, but she eventually kills him. You heart would sink when the scene where Gokul seems to be wining the fight and ties Naina up, comes.
Akshay Kumar vs Deepika Padukone – Chandani Chowk to China
On orders of her master, Suzy (Deepika Padukone) stabs Chiang, unknown to her that he is her father, and Siddhu (Akshay Kumar) comes in Chiang’s defense, who happens to be his Kung Fu trainer. A fight between Suzy and Siddhu commences, involving knives, sword and an umbrella. A Chinese version of Deepika Padukone delivering nasty kicks and punches and beating up Akshay Kumar was pretty awesome to watch.
Taapsee Pannu vs Sushant Singh – Baby
Priya Suryavanshi (Taapsee Pannu), a special agent on a mission to capture a terrorist Wasim Khan (Sushant Singh) has her cover blown to him after her plan goes dreadfully wrong. A thrilling hand combat begins between the two, while Priya’s superior Ajay Singh Rajput (Akshay Kumar) races against time trying to reach and save her. When Ajay finally enters the hotel room, he is surprised to see that Priya, a skilled fighter, managed to overpower Wasim and knock him out. The punches delivered are not the typical dishoom-dishoom Bollywood is famous for.
Mahima Chaudhary vs Akshay Kumar – Khiladi 420
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Ritu Bhardwaj (Mahima Chaudhary) and her husband Dev Kumar (Akshay Kumar) on their wedding night, fight on top of a chandelier after Ritu discovers her husband is a con man and plans to kill her for her money. Finally, Ritu smashes Dev’s head with a rod of the fallen chandelier.
Saif Ali Khan vs Jacqueline Fernandez – Race 2
Omisha (Jacqueline Fernandes) proves to be a femme fatale for Ranveer Singh (Saif Ali Khan). The tension between the two characters swings between sexual and revengeful in a fencing sequence. Ranveer wouldn’t leave an opportunity to flirt her. Subtle humor and titillating flirtation is more important factor in this battle than hurting the opponent. The sequence ends with a very unexpected result.
Riteish Deshmukh vs Archana Puran Singh – Masti
This one’s on the list for the sake of laughter that is brought by the scene. Amar (Riteish Deshmukh), in disguise, tries to anesthetize his mother-in-law (Archana Puran Singh) so that he can carry out a burgalry in his own home. But the fighting champ mother-in-law wouldn’t go down so easy. A hilarious hand fight sequence begins between the two, and it takes hating your mother-in-law to whole new level.
Kangana Ranaut vs Hrithik Roshan – Krrish 3
Kaya (Kanagana Ranaut) a superpower-abled mutant pays a not-so-friendly visit to Krrish’s (Hrithik Roshan) family to uncover a secret. A battle of superpowers begins when Krrish comes in to save his family. Kaya and Krrish use weird unexplainable techniques to fight each other, at one point Kaya probably tries to suck Krrish’s soul like a dementor from Harry Potter series.Imagine a climactic fight between the two. Would have been way better than the Kaal and Krrish battle.
Emraan Hashmi vs Huma Qureshi/Konkona Sen Sharma – Ek Thi Daayan
Emraan Hashmi is not doing what he usually does to woman in films in this sequence. Instead he is defeating an evil witch who is trying to sacrifice his adoptive son. The climactic sequence is spooky with Bob (Emraan Hashmi) using his witchcraft for a good cause against his evil girlfriend Tamara (Huma Qureshi). Tamara transforms into her real avatar Diana (Konkoana Sen Sharma). It’s all hell of a fight from there (takes place in hell, literally), Bobo is tossed into walls, and Diana is flinged around like a boomerang. The entire fight sequence also manages to fill up the scary quotient of the film.
