Maine Pyar Kiya was the film that defined love for us. We realised ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost nahi ho sakte. It was a simple love story which made a great impact. It gave Bollywood its biggest superstar Salman Khan and a petite heroine in Bhagyashree. Many years later, when the same heroine was asked who she wants in the remake of the film if that ever gets made, Bhagyashree chose Alia Bhatt to play her as, “She is a fantastic actress; she was brilliant in Udta Punjab.” When it came to choosing the actor who could slip into Salman’s shoes in the remake, she went with Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh, because, “They are such talented actors that I feel like a junior in front of them.” (Also read: Bhagyashree : My kids are Salman Khan fans!)
Speaking to Bombay Times, Bhagyashree doesn’t regret quitting films after such a successful debut. “People matter, things don’t. Awards and recognition are momentary pleasures. After a while, it’s just going to adorn f your shelf. I was at a stage when I had to choose between a great career and the man I loved madly. Even if I were to go back in time, I would do it the same way.” Talking about her husband’s possessiveness for her, she said, “My husband (Himalaya) wasn’t comfortable seeing me romancing other men on screen. In fact, my in-laws are more comfortable and cool about me acting than him.”

Bhagyashree also opened up about how Salman teased her on the sets of the film when he got to know about Himalaya. “They have met only once after that. Salman was the first to know about my relationship with Himalaya during the shoot of the song, Dil Deewana. He would follow me around and hum the song in my ear. I kept warning him that people will start talking about us. After irritating me or half-a-day , he said that he knew about Himalaya. He even suggested that I call Himalaya to the location.
