While Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte’s Sacred Games is receiving rave reviews from critics worldwide, a petition against the makers has been filed by a member of the Congress party. Rajiv Sinha, member of Congress, in West Bengal, had filed a complaint against the show, showrunners and Nawazuddin, for allegedly insulting former PM, Rajiv Gandhi. In his letter to the police, he wrote, that Nawazuddin’s character “abused our late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi calling him fattu, which translated as pu*** in the subtitle.” He also accused the makers of the show of “misrepresenting facts during his regime.” While the issue was pretty grave, we didn’t expect the makers to take such a drastic step. News Agency ANI took to Twitter to share the news of a recent development in this case and from what we learn, the makers are advised to delete that particular scene from the episode. The tweets by ANI read, “A plea has been moved in Delhi High Court against Netflix, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Phantom Productions, Vikram Motwani, Anurag Kashyap & Govt of India for derogatory & abusive remarks against former PM Rajiv Gandhi in an episode of ‘Sacred Games.” Going further it also states, “Plea seeks to stay on streaming of an episode of ‘Sacred Games’ and deletion of a particular part of the episode containing derogatory & abusive remarks against former PM Rajiv Gandhi.” Also Read: EXCLUSIVE: Saif Ali Khan on Sacred Games, freedom on the internet and owing his success to Mumbai
Now will the makers agree to this decision by the High Court or will they go against it and appeal in Supreme Court? Though no official confirmation about this has been issued by Phantom Productions or even Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, we wait to see if they are willing to let it go.
