Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif‘s Jagga Jasoos opened on a average note on day 1 as it raked in only Rs 8.57 crore at the domestic box office. The movie had a good pre-release buzz going for it, but with a working Friday and incessant rain, it could only manage an opening occupancy of 25 per cent during the morning shows. This definitely took a toll on the collections and hence, even with a similar screen space, Jagga Jasoos could not beat the likes of Varun Dhawan‘s Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Arjun Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend on day 1 at the domestic box office.
However, Jagga Jasoos did manage to make it into the top 10 highest openers of 2017. Currently, the movie has the 8th highest opening day collection. The biggest opener of 2017 is Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi dubbed – Rs 41 crore) at the moment. It is followed by Tubelight (Rs 21.15 crore), Raees (Rs 20.42 crore), Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 13.20 crore), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Rs 12.25 crore), Kaabil (Rs 10.43 crore), Half Girlfriend (Rs 10.27 crore), Jagga Jasoos (Rs 8.57 crore), Sachin: A Billion Dreams (Rs 8.40 crore) and Raabta (Rs 5.61 crore). Coming back to Jagga Jasoos, the movie has received mixed reviews from the critics. Several of them liked Ranbir’s performance, but not the film. As our critic – Tushar P Joshi also mentioned in his review, “Jagga Jasoos is only worth a watch for Ranbir Kapoor’s class act. As a musical, the film falters on several notes.” The public, on the other hand, has been praising the film. This might help Jagga Jasoos grow over the weekend and post a good collection.
