The cast of Midnight’s Children is seen wearing ensembles designed by Ritu Kumar – all of them look super-fabulous in creations inspired by Kashmiri culture
While Rahul Bose surprises us in his ethnic avatar, Soha looks stunning in a white ensemble made of chanderi silk. Shahana Goswami impresses us with the way she’s carrying a full-sleeved gold blouse and an intricately embellished net dupatta. And even as we couldn’t stop raving about the outfits opted for by Deepa Mehta’s diligently chosen actors, we discovered that an extensive amount of research was done in order to settle on those style statements. Ritu went the extra mile by going through the history of fashion and studying clothes that were worn by Muslim families of Pre-Independence India. In fact, we hear that even Salman Rushdie, who wrote Midnight’s Children and collaborated on the screenplay made himself available when it came to helping out in the costume department.
Anita Majumdar, who plays the role of Emerald in the movie, is seen posing in an gem-green kurta and a dupatta with a decorated hem. And Neha Mahajan is seen bringing her feminine side to the fore in a pheran – which is a traditional kurta-like garment worn by Kashmiris. The style itself speaks volumes about the film, and we are wondering what the movie will be like. We desperately wait for it to hit the theatre screens…
