The 64th National Film Awards are taking place right now. A few weeks ago it was announced that Akshay Kumar will receive the Best Actor award for his performance in Rustom. He was vested with the honour this evening, as his wife Twinkle Khanna and son Aarav Bhatia cheered for him. Certainly this was a proud moment for the entire family, and happiness was writ large on their faces.
Weeks ago, when the winners’ list was announced there was a slight confusion about whether Akshay had won the award for Rustom or Airlift. Priyadarshan, a member of the awards jury, clarified that though the actor’s work in both the films was considered for the win, due to technical reasons only Rustom’s name could be mentioned. The actor’s performance in both the films was indeed applause worthy. To collect his award, Akshay was dressed in a black pathani suit and looked handsome as ever. Twinkle and Aarav, too, wore ethnic attires for the occasion. The family looked uber gorgeous.

While the actor has starred in quite mindless comedies like Housefull, Singh is Bliing etc, he has also been a part of some great films like Baby, Special Chabbis, Airlift and Rustom. The credit for the same goes to his wife or so claims the actor. On an episode of Koffee with Karan, Akshay revealed that Twinkle had threatened him. He was either to work in good cinema or not have a second child. Well, the threat paid off and how!
Earlier in the day, before heading out for the event, Akshay posted this picture with his fam:
We hope to see Akshay in more content-driven movies in the future. And from his upcoming projects that have been announced, there are quite a few. Toilet – Ek Prem Katha talks about sanitation, while Gold is about Indian Hockey team’s win at the Olympics. Other projects like Pad Man and Crack also seem to have good content.
Sonam Kapoor was also present at the event. She got a special mention award for her performance in Neerja. Her father, National Award winner, Anil Kapoor, accompanied her. Sonam’s rumoured boyfriend Anand Ahuja was also there to cheer for her.
