Mahesh Babu: Srimanthudu has helped me earn back my respect!

After two back to back box office failures, the Telugu superstar is overwhelmed with the success of Srimanthudu

Mahesh Babu is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of Telugu cinema. But last year, Mahesh faced two consecutive duds at the box office. So when Srimanthudu hit the screens on August 7, the onus was on Mahesh Babu to deliver a hit.

After crossing over Rs 100 crore in a week, one can easily say that Srimanthudu is now the biggest blockbuster of Mahesh Babu. Speaking to the press, Mahesh Babu said,” “The last one week has been very special. Everybody has been saying ‘Srimanthudu’ is the best film of my career.”

The actor turned emotional when he revealed how much his dad Krishna loved the movie. ” After watching the film, dad told me that he’s never seen me perform like this. I just couldn’t stop myself from crying,”added Mahesh.

Speaking about delivering a box office hit after two successive flops, Srimanthudu superstar said,” It hasn’t sunk in yet. I think it will take time for me to even cherish this success. More than the monetary success, I was satisfied as an actor. It’s funny there’s a dialogue in the film that goes, ‘Let me also earn my respect’. It feels nice to have earned that. Telugu audience love cinema. They won’t let a good film down and they’ve proved this with the way they accepted Srimanthudu”.

When asked if his kids have seen the film, Mahesh Babu replied,”My son Gautham usually doesn’t watch my films. But he watched Srimanthudu in the theatre. My daughter Sitara, who is too young to watch films, managed to watch it. She can sing all the songs from the film”.

After becoming the second Telugu film after SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, will Srimanthudu set a new trend of Rs 100 crore flicks in Tollywood? Only time will tell.
