Shama Sikander is giving us the ‘shocks’. Firstly, it was her transformation into a curvy beauteous babe that made our eyeballs pop out. If that was not enough, then we were treated to Sexaholic. The actress played the role of this sex-crazed woman in the short film battling nymphomania. Shama confessed that she watched porn for the film. A lot of people noticed her uninhibited performance in the short film and she soon bagged the lead role in Vikram Bhatt’s Maaya. Well, the trailer of Maaya is out and it has similarities to Sexaholic. However, this one has the element of suspense and intrigue, which is a routine in any Vikram Bhatt thrillex. Shama is this housewife, who is obsessed with the idea of BDSM (Bondage Dominance/Submission and Sadism/Masochism). She is unable to share her sexual fantasies with her husband and finds a partner who can play the bedroom games she desires for. However, she ends up with retrograde amnesia and does not remember a certain portion of her life. Her husband is also looking for revenge and having an extra-marital affair behind her back. The actress is in good form and seems to be considerably restrained in this one. Veer Aryan and Vipul Gupta are the male leads. Given the theme of BDSM, parallels will be drawn to the cult erotica Fifty Shades of Grey. Yes, we do see handcuffs, harnesses and leashes in Maaya and she also makes a cryptic reference on how she enjoys being dominated on. Some might say it is a watered down version of the film but there is no denying that the novel theme will grab eyeballs. In a statement, Vikram Bhatt has stated, “Maaya appeals to the primordial in all of us, it underlines the fact that the body has a mind of its own,” points out Vikram, adding that it also asks the ever-important question: Does society have the right to barge into the bedroom of two consenting adults?” (Also Read: ‘Sexaholic’ Shama Sikander REVEALS she did watch porn to prep up for the film!)
The film-maker is known to make films loaded with passion and sensuality but the tastes of the audience are rapidly-changing. BDSM is a pretty unexplored concept in India but considering how we read of incidents all round, which reflect that many individuals live with an alter-ego…the series might just appeal to porn and crime buffs.
