Bollywood is exploring new territories with the changing times. Earlier this year, in a first, we saw Naam Shabana – a prequel to a hit film, Baby. Jagga Jasoos was intended to be a franchise, and so was Sushant Singh Rajput’s upcoming film, Drive. Now, as per latest reports, we learn that Karan Johar has also planned Ranbir Kapoor’s next with Ayan Mukerji to be a trilogy. Never before has Bollywood attempted, or succeeded, at a planned trilogy. Though there have been more than two sequels to Hindi films for example Golmaal, but they never have been pre-planned. Let’s see how fans accept this new style of filmmaking.
Dharma Productions’ head honcho, Karan, was speaking to media at the IFFM 2017. He was asked about his next collaboration with Ranbir, after the successful Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and the filmmaker/producer opened up about their next project, which was earlier titled Dragon. “Ranbir is a big part of Dharma. We have had great innings with him so far and we are looking forward to the next with him, which Ayan is directing. This new movie is going to be a cinematic experience and we have spent a lot of time on scripting the trilogy. It’s one of the most ambitious Dharma films ever. We will start shooting in October-November and will announce the final title in September,” said Karan.
Well, we can only hope that Karan and Ranbir are able to tap into the zone of trilogies like Back to the Future, SpiderMan. Also Read: Ranbir Kapoor’s beefed-up look not for Sanjay Dutt biopic but for Dragon, reveals his trainer
