Pratyusha Banerjee’s death on April 1 sent shockwaves across the nation. What was even more disturbing was the alleged involvement of her boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh in the case. Just after her demise, the late actress’ friends accused Rahul of isolating her and driving her to this drastic step. Now, Rahul Raj Singh has filed a defamation case against Kamya Punjabi for Rs one crore. The actor says that it was Kamya who encouraged Pratyusha’s friends to accuse him of abusing and physically torturing the deceased.
Rahul in a statement to The Times of India said, “I have filed a case against Kamya and three others in Ranchi High Court as I come from there. I want a public apology from all those who took advantage of the situation and hurled accusations at my family and me. Kamya claims to be Pratyusha’s friend. If she wanted to help solve the case, she would have gone to the police and not the media. I want her to prove all the allegations she had leveled against me in court now.”
Readers will remember how Pratyusha’s friends had held a press meet after her suicide insisting that Rahul’s role in the suicide be thoroughly investigated. Other than Kamya, Vikas Gupta, Adaa Khan, Shashank Vyas and Sara Khan were also present. When the daily questioned him on why did he choose to respond six months after Pratyusha’s death, he said, “I needed time to gather evidence.”
Kamya stated, “I haven’t received any legal notice yet. I will decide what needs to be done once I get it. I am not scared of anyone.”
