Even Besharam did better numbers than Jagga Jasoos… and that sums up the film’s condition at the box office. This adventure musical film which released last Friday was supposed to be India’s answer to Hollywood musicals. But it ended up being a disappointment, in terms of box office collections. While word of mouth is gaining momentum, Jagga Jasoos is still struggling big time. We doubt if it will recover from the onslaught at all. In fact, the opening weekend numbers are one of Ranbir Kapoor‘s worst. Only Roy, Anjaana Anjaani and Bombay Velvet were the films that JJ managed to beat and all of them are Ranbir’s biggest disappointments. Especially BV… big budget, big actors but poor outcome!
Jagga Jasoos has earned Rs 33.17 crore in first three days. It will be difficult to say now what the future holds for this film. All depends on Monday’s numbers which will explain whether or not the film will make any headway after all. These aren’t bad numbers given the fact that it started on a terrible note. Not much was expected from it after it got only 20 percent occupancy but buoyed by positive word of mouth, the film managed to see an upward trend over weekend which helped it post a good total at the end of its first weekend. But we highly doubt if that would be enough. Bombay Velvet, Ranbir’s biggest flop, had earned a paltry Rs 16.10 crore, Roy Rs 28.68 crore and Anjaana Anjaani Rs 20.11 crore. But what is surprising is that despite being one of his worst reviewed movies, Besharam is still his second highest opening weekend total after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. It had earned Rs 47.69 crore at the box office. Shocking right? In fact, it still has the highest opening day record for him! We don’t know if Ranbir can feel proud of this achievement.
