Independence Day Special: 9 things TV stars should get freedom from

They’d do almost anything and everything to be free from these ridiculous things we see on TV everyday

Today on August 15 as we celebrate Independence Day, we list down ten things that Indian telly actors should be freed from. And we are sure they’d all agree with us after going through a crazy list.

Freedom from cakey make-up

No matter what time of the day it is actresses are always decked up in heavy duty makeup and jewellery. No matter how much they cry or have not had bath for days (kidnapping sequences) their makeup is always fresh and their hair is blow dried like they’ve just come from the parlour. Ask us what two days of not washing your hair can do to it. Remember Kumkum Bhagya kidnapping sequence where Abhi and Pragya were gone for weeks but when they came back – it looked like they walked out of the parlour.

Freedom from time leaps

It has become a trend for daily soaps to take a leap when writers have no clue how to take the story forward. When they are clueless about how to up the numbers they take a leap, create controversy on who will die and who will get separated just before the leap. Cue Qubool Hai – God knows how many years ahead they should be by now considering they’ve taken so many 20 year leaps.

Freedom from extra marital affairs

Every hero has one heroine as designed by the producers and writers, but then they also have lovers on the side so that a controversy is always handy to have. If you are married once, your next turn is just around the corner ‘coz there just isn’t a better twist that the other man or woman in the protagonist’s life. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein creates and epic number of confusions on this one.

Freedom from multiple weddings

It’s something we’ve often noticed that the hero will first marry the heroine then change of heart and some misunderstanding will convince him to marry the sister. Before the show ends he will be married at least 5 times. Recent episodes of Kumkum Bhagya and Swaragini are an example of this.

Freedom from fluctuating between being rich and poor

Ever since television soaps began – the plot of the rich guy going broke has been a very common twist. Being rich is cool but going broke and working for a week again to be rich is ridiculous. If being rich was that easy wouldn’t we all be billionaires. Bade Acche Lagte Hain and Sasural Simar Ka makes us laugh out loud with their monetary fluctuations.

Freedom from memory losses

Just when the protagonists are finally about to meet and confess their love for each other – one of them will meet with an accident and lose his or her memory. It will then take weeks to get them back on track by then the prospect of love goes right out of the window. Qubool Hai has used this gimmick one too many times. And Ekta Kapoor is a pro when it comes to memory losses.

Freedom from being goody two shoes all the time

If any of these lead heroines were for real I’d puke right in my mouth. No one can be that good, their characters are never real. No one can stand or take all the rubbish that is doled out to heroines just to prove that they are the best thing that happened to mankind. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’s Ishita and Kumkum Bhagya’s Pragya give us diabetes.

Freedom from a never-ending life

Actors never age on daily soaps and even if they grow old, it somehow never shows on them. From the time they hit puberty till they are great grandmothers they all look the same and behave the same. It’s like Ekta Kapoor has this tonic to keep everyone young on the show. It’s hilarious sometimes and most often just ridiculous when characters age crosses 200. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Pavitra Rishta often made is wonder.

Freedom from doppelgangers and reincarnations

How many lookalikes are there supposed to be in the world? I was told about seven but never thought they could all meet in one show. The number of times we see doppelgangers in a show really makes us wonder how they manage these things without giving it any thought. If that was not enough, makers come up with the reincarnations and generations of kids all looking the same. At least that’s what we see in Qubool Hai.
