Sridevi was a talented actress, who entered Bollywood after causing a storm down South. She was a director’s darling! The impact that she had on the industry was so huge that roles were specially written for her and she had the liberty to pick a subject that pleased her. There were times when the actress politely declined movie roles because they weren’t big enough for her, as an actress. She was still juggling between her career in Bollywood and South and staying in hotels was becoming a nuisance for her. In an interaction with The Print, famous movie critic Bhavana Somaaya revealed how Sridevi was tired of staying in hotels and that’s the reason she bought herself a flat in the famous Lokhandwala area. Going further she recalled an incident when Sridevi predicted AR Rahman’s success in Bollywood. The critic was once going to Sridevi’s place for an interview. Since she lived close to her home, Sridevi called her at night for the interview because she had returned late from shooting. When the critic entered her house, it was brimming with Tamil music and when enquired about it, the actress said the music was by AR Rahman. “He is just a 27-year old boy; you just wait and watch how he will be grabbed by the Hindi film industry,” she had told her, back then. The talented actress was a huge hit in Bollywood after Himmatwala. There were filmmakers waiting to cast her in their movies. Just the way she could see a bright future for AR Rahman in Bollywood, it was Jeetendra who saw tremendous potential in the actress while filming Himmatwala. Talking about her to the same movie critic, he had once said, “Just watch her, she doesn’t speak a word in Hindi but she is going to be a sensation in Mumbai after this film.”
