In the past, Netflix has been quite successful with the horror genre. It has produced movies like Gerald’s Game. Now that the streaming giant has ventured into Indian territory with the critically acclaimed Sacred Games, it is also all set to roll out new horror web series, Ghoul. It will only have three episodes in total, all of which will stream on August 22. The first trailer of the series will be released tomorrow.
The first poster of Ghoul was released today by the makers. It features Radhika Apte – who also stars in Netflix’s Sacred Games and the movie, Lust Stories – holding a gun while a ‘ghoul’ish hand holds her shoulder. Ghoul is a horror series based on an Arabic folklore. It is set around a covert detention centre and will star Apte, along with Manav Kaul, in key roles. It has been written by Patrick Graham, who will also perform the directing duties. As per the official synopsis, “Ghoul is a chilling series about a prisoner who arrives at a remote military interrogation centre and turns the tables on his interrogators, exposing their most shameful secrets. You can fight the demons of this world but what about the ones that aren’t?”(ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Saif Ali Khan on Sacred Games, freedom on the internet and owing his success to Mumbai)
Ghoul has been co-produced by Phantom Films and Blumhouse Productions. Vikramaditya Motwane, Phantom Films, has said, “Ghoul is a first in class, edge-of-your-seat horror series – that we are incredibly proud of. This is our second collaboration with Netflix (after Sacred Games) and yet another strong example of commitment towards high-quality content. We are extremely proud of Ghoul – and cannot wait for audiences around the world to experience an elevated horror narrative from India.”
Netflix is not stopping just here with the original content. The streaming giant will also roll out its co-production with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment soon enough. The series titled, The Bard of Blood, was commissioned in November 2017.
