There is something about good films. You want more and more and that demand gives rise to sequels in Bollywood. No, we, as an audience, don’t want to take the credit of all of them that gets made because not every film deserves a sequel, but a Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara follow-up is warranted and so is Don 3. So when we met up with Reema Kagti (who wrote ZNMD with Zoya Akhtar) and director Ritesh Sidhwani, we wanted to know what’s happening on that front. Well, they gave us a piece of both good and bad news. You can forget about ZNMD sequel if Reema and Zoya have their way. As for Don 3, Ritesh confirms it’s happening but nothing is final yet. Even Farhan Akhtar had passed the ball to Zoya and Reema’s court about ZNMD on Twitter…but that couldn’t deter the two ladies at all. “Zoya and me don’t believe in sequels. You did it once and it is good. I am sure Ritesh would be happy…” To this Ritesh quips, “Never say never! It has to come from them (Zoya and Reema) as the writers.” To assert further, Reema continues, “Ek film that does well in Bollywood they start making a sequel. Why spoil a good thing? Ritesh obviously doesn’t want to close that window. Zoya is not on Twitter but I always communicate to her. I told her, Zoya, everyone wants a ZNMD sequel…she said, let them keep wanting.” All hopes dashed, clearly!
It was only obvious that we ask Ritesh about Don 3 with Shah Rukh Khan. “Don is going to happen but we still haven’t locked the story. Lot of people are looking forward to it. We need to figure out what the story is. We are working on an idea, discussing it internally…when it will happen we don’t know.”
