Ek Thhi Naayka TV review: Weekly dose of daayan stories that get predictable

Do daayans exist? What is the truth about black magic? How do you deal with the evil energy? What is Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming movie, Ek Thi Daayan all about? This weekly show attempts to answer the most haunting questions of your lives…

It all began when Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj decided to make a witch-centric movie called Ek Thi Daayan. They were happy with the plot, but somewhere deep within, the makers were skeptical about the preparedness of a viewer’s mind for such an evil flick. So, they launched Ek Thhi Naayka on Life OK. This show was meant to introduce the viewers into the world of witches and ready them for the movie releasing on April 18. This, according to us, is the etymology of the show that went on air on March 9.

So apart from the primary aim of promoting the movie, Ek Thhi Naayka tells you the stories of different kinds of daayans and their common attributes – twisted feet and a serpentine plait. Listening to the makers’ pearls of wisdom makes one feel well informed and equipped to counter the situation in case a real life witch drops in to say a ‘hi’. For example, the protagonist, in every episode we have watched till date, says, ‘the real power of a daayan lies in her plait.’ This, till the makers are satisfied that you won’t forget it whenever need be. Thank you, Ekta and Vishal, for being so thoughtful.

Now, coming back to the show – each episode is well scripted and the plot is tight to keep you hooked till the end. Of course, dramatised effects such as shrieks, creaking doors and ghoulish voices are omnipresent in the background. Though they don’t really scare you, they do offer a stray goosebump whenever the daayan pops up silently. So yeah, Ek Thhi Naayka is a good show, far better than its contemporaries.

But even though we liked the stories, the twists kind of get predicable after a point in time, just like Sidney Sheldon novels. So our suggestion – catch a couple of episodes of this show if you can, and you will be entertained.

P.S. Will so many doses of daayan stories make the movie, Ek Thi Daayan predictable? We hope not. Ciao!
