There are a few on-screen couples we love to see again and again. Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are one of them. Recently, there were reports that the couple was reuniting on-screen for Anurag Kashyap produced Gulab Jamun. Well, these reports are absolutely true as the actress confirmed about the same to Mid-Day. She said, “AB [Abhishek] and I have agreed to do Gulab Jamun. I told AB that he needs to decide what he wants to do after Manmarziyan.” She also revealed that they were offered this story one and a half year ago. “We had agreed on the idea then. However, it was around the same time that AB decided to take a time-out. After the hiatus, he returned with Manmarziyan, which coincidentally is directed by Anurag Kashyap. That’s when the chatter around Gulab Jamun began again, and we finally came on board. It is a beautiful script, and we fit the narrative perfectly,” the actress added. Abhishek and Aishwarya were last seen on screen in 2010 in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. The actress even spoke about how she chooses a script when it involves both of them. “The script has to be interesting if a real-life couple is coming together. We have got many scripts, and at times, we got tempted too. But then, we discuss it out loud. We take stock and say, ‘Does it excite us?’ Why should marriage define our choices? Shouldn’t we be actually approaching the story as individual actors?” the actress reveals.
Well, we totally agree with Aishwarya here. It never bodes well to do a film just because everyone wants to see them together. A script should drive them to make a decision and the Bachchans are pretty clear about that.
