Chennai rapper Sofia Ashraf’s amazing rap number blasts Unilever for poisoning Kodaikanal – watch video!

This brave hip hop number gives much needed impetus to 15 year old campaign against Hindustan Unilever

Throughout the history, films and songs have played pivotal roles in uprising of revolutions. While the nation still talks about the tragic Bhopal Gas tragedy, not many were aware of the ordeal which famous hill station of Tamilnadu, Kodaikanal, is facing.

The rap number Kodaikanal Won’t, sung and composed by Chennai based rapper Sofia Ashraf, has brought the world’s attention to the toxic waste problem which the hill station has been facing for more than 15 years.  In the video, the rapper Sofia Ashraf blasts Unilever for polluting the soil and the atmosphere of Kodaikanal by dumping mercury toxic waste from the thermometer plant that was set up years ago. It is said that the workers in the factory were exposed to hazardous toxic which had adverse effect on their health.

In the rap video, Sofia Ashraf asks Unilever to stand up and clean up the mess which they had created. With in hours, the video went viral online, with people discussing about the issue animatedly. Such was the impact of the video that  even US singer Nicky Minaj tweeted about the video.
