Cannes 2018: Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto selected to compete in the ‘Uncertain Regard’ section

After screening the special promo of the film at Cannes 2017, Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s Manto has been selected to compete in the Uncertain Regard cateogry at Cannes 2018. This news was announced by the official page of the film festival, which wrote, “MANTO by Nandita Das #UCR #Cannes2018.” And as soon as this announcement was made, Nawazuddin expressed his joy on Twitter, when he wrote, “‘And it is possible that Saadat Hasan dies, but MANTO remains alive.’ Glad to inform that ‘MANTO’ is selected for competition at #Cannes2018 in #UnCertainRegard section. Congratulations @nanditadas and Team #Manto.”

Directed by Nandita Das, Manto chronicles the life of writer-playwright Saadat Hasan Manto. Set in 1940s, the film will show his life and work in the pre-independence era. Also starring Tahir Raj Bhasin and Rasika Duggal, Manto is going to be a film to watch out for! From what we hear, Nawazuddin and Rasika’s characters will really impress the audience and Nandita had a really good time shooting with the stars. As she had mentioned to the media earlier at an event, “Both of them are wonderful. Honestly, both are very accomplished actors and wonderful human beings. When you spend so much time with actors, you also want to work with good people. So, I feel fortunate that they have fully dedicated themselves and they are real troopers.” (ALSO READ – Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto to release mid-2018, reveals director Nandita Das)

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Miss Lovely had also made it to the Uncertain Regard category a few years ago, however it could not bag the award. Can Nawaz redeem himself with an award for Manto? Well time will only tell, but we can’t wait to see him, Rasika and Nandita attend Cannes 2018. Apart from these three, Aishwarya, Sonam and several other stars will walk the red carpet at the prestigious film festival for a cosmetic brand.
