Black Panther continues its phenomenal run, surpasses Titanic to become the third highest grosser at the US box office

Marvel’s Black Panther made headlines for all the right reasons. While the African community got its own superhero, Ryan Coogler, the movie’s director, was praised for his brilliant direction. No one could anticipate, Black Panther’s such a successful run at the worldwide box office. The movie previously became the highest superhero movie of all time when it beat the Avengers with its collection at the US Box office. When Marvel’s first Avengers hit the screens in 2012, it went ahead to collect a stupendous amount of $623 million; but the record was broken six years later by this Chadwick Boseman starrer. Honestly, before the release of the movie, even the most hopeful box office analyst would have laughed off at the idea of Black Panther beating the First Avengers movie when it came to the US box office. The movie was great with ordinary storyline yet extraordinary performances. It’s success was phenomenal and unexpected definitely. After surpassing Avengers at the box office, Black Panther ($659.5 million) now has managed to beat James Cameron’ Titanic ($659.3 million) to become the third highest grosser of all time in the US. Titanic earlier managed to enjoy the number two position for 12 long years until Avatar ($760 million) hit the screens in 2009. Black Panther now has to beat Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens to enjoy the numero position at the BO.

In this two-month-long run, Black Panther has successfully managed to beat many records and shatter collections at the box office worldwide. The film even held the top spot at the box office for five straight weekends. The last movie to secure the No. 1 spot for at least five weekends was Avatar, which led for seven weeks in 2009 and 2010. Prior to that, 1999’s The Sixth Sense was the last film to hold the top spot for five straight weeks. The movie has also broken Iron Man 3’s record at the worldwide box office to become the biggest solo superhero flick of all time internationally. And it is third overall behind the first two Avengers movies. However, makers are expecting their next, Avengers: Infinity War to surpass all the previous records and create a never seen before like havoc at the box office. The movie is already creating strong buzz and is expected to receive a thunderous opening and splendid run ahead.
