While the iconic superstar has achieved great feats on celluloid, Thalaiva has failed to create an impact on social media
Remember the date May 5,2014? No? Let me take you back on that day. It was that memorable day when India’s greatest style icon Rajinikanth joined Twitter. Now, I am sure I don’t have to remind you about the mass fan frenzy on social media as millions of avid Rajini fans thronged to Twitter to follow their Thalaiva in the virtual world. In 24 hours, Rajinikanth had 240K followers on Twitter.
Lets travel back to the present and see how many followers does Lingaa star have on Twitter? With 1.09M followers, Rajini lags behind stars of same stature like Big B and SRK who are hot favourites on Twitter. Given his immense popularity, if you ask me why Thalaiva has failed to compete with these B-town superstars in terms of number of Twitter followers, I would have to point fingers at Rajinikanth’s perpetual state of inactiveness on Twitter.
When Kochadaiiyaan star joined Twitter, I, like any other Rajini fan was super excited to see Thalaiva on social media and had aspirations to interact with the stylish actor on Twitter. But alas to my great disappointment, the Lingaa actor has been dormant on Twitter for way too long now. It has been ages since Rajini had tweeted. Infact his last tweet was on May 22,2014, on the day of his last release, Kochadaiiyaan. His last tweet was,”My best wishes to the cast and technical crew, producers, distributors and exhibitors of #Kochadaiiyaan”
With Rajini almost invisible on Twitter now, we wonder if superstar’s entry into social media was just a publicity trick to attract tremendous buzz around his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth’s animated flick Kochadaiiyaan. With Lingaa ready to hit the screens, I wonder if Rajini will wake from his deep online slumber and tweet to promote the film…
We all know about superstar’s humility and down to earth nature when it comes to obliging to his fans request. So, I, as a Rajini fan, humbly request the iconic superstar of Tamil cinema to please consider his much awaited comeback to Twitter. Not just me, but millions of his fans will be thrilled to interact with their beloved superstar. So, are you listening Mr Rajinikanth?
