The Tamil actor turns 38 today, July 23
Suriya Sivakumar was born on July 23, 1975. His birthday celebrations began a fortnight ago. His latest film, Singam 2, was declared a super-duper hit and set the box-office on fire.
It was a much-needed hit, for Suriya’s last film, Maatrraan, in which he played conjoined twins, didn’t quite take off. You have to hand it to Suriya, who began as the boy next door, for being willing to experiment in his choice of roles. Bala gave him memorable roles, first in Nandha and then in Pithamagan, in which he played a rural conman to perfection. Suriya has also been adventurous enough to play a lovable hunchback in Perazhagan. But it’s full-on commercial films such as Ayan, Aaru Ghajini and Vel which have built him up as mass hero.
The cop role is another which Suriya has made his own. He played an intense cop in Gautham Menon’s Kaakka Kaakka, the two finding a good rapport and going on to do Vaaranam Aayiram together. Suriya is also going to be doing Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram next. The angry cop is what he played in Hari’s 2010 film Singam, the sequel to which has now taken Suriya to dizzying heights. No wonder then, he’s toying with the idea of Singam 3.
Here’s wishing the star a very happy birthday!
