Top Kollywood filmmaker Shankar was born on 17th August 1963
Shankar, one of the leading contemporary directors of Tamil cinema, will certainly have more than birthday celebrations on his mind right now. His mega project I, starring Vikram and a hi-tech crew, is in the initial stages at the moment and Shankar is dreaming big for it. That is not unusual, thought, for he’s been frequently described as the most expensive filmmaker in the South. Superstars, grand scale productions and top-of-the-line production values are Shankar’s signature style. This year, he’s had the hit, Nanban – remake of 3 Idiots. And now it’s full steam ahead with I.
As he turns 49, Shankar can look back at a career lined with successful films. In 2007, there was Sivaji- the Boss, and before that films such as Mudhalvan, Boys, Jeans, Gentleman and Anniyan which all did roaring business at the box office, even if critics found some of them over the top. But Shankar has always been a filmmaker of excess.
Here’s wishing him an extravagantly happy birthday!
