There are many things that people find annoying about Indian award functions. And we are talking about leading film award shows, forget the others! From forced gags to ‘attendance awards’ and badly choreographed stage acts, the list is endless. And while we may not admit it, Indian award shows look embarrassing as compared to foreign ones. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta today tweeted that he felt embarrassed seeing how Bollywood organised its award shows abroad. We wonder if he was referring to the current IIFA 2018 that is being shown on a leading GEC. Though many not voice it, people will surely agree with his point of view.
I feel embarrassed just watching our award shows held abroad.
Is this how we present ourselves to the world?— Sanjay Gupta (@_SanjayGupta) July 29, 2018
We don’t how his colleagues from the fraternity will react to Gupta’s statement. To be honest, the event organisers of such award shows have a certain template that is followed even if a show is being held in India or abroad. While someone would expect some kind of cultural confluence none of that ever happens. We have the same set of people anchoring a show and it is hugely predictable. Bollywood is a huge industry and a lot of eyes are on it. It is time we raise our standards given how popular our stars are in the Far East and all over the world.
