Toilet: Ek Prem Katha SHATTERS Bajrangi Bhaijaan; becomes fourth highest opening weekend grosser in China

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has surprised everyone with its stupendous box office performance in the Chinese market. The social satirical drama has raked in Rs 61.04 crore in its opening weekend at the ticket windows. With this total, it has surpassed the first weekend collections of Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which had collected Rs 55.22 crore in China. It has turned out to be the fourth highest opening weekend grosser after Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium and Dangal.

Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to enter the Rs 100 crore club by the end of its opening week at the box office. A huge section of the industry was not too confident of the film’s business in China due to the rural concern it addresses in the film. However, these recent figures have shown a different story. TEPK, a satirical comedy in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign to improve sanitation conditions in India, had hit the domestic box office in August 2017.
