Akshay Kumar’s Toilet Ek Prem Katha set to hit 4300 screens in China; becomes the smallest Indian release in recent times

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar‘s Toilet Ek Prem Katha is all set to release in China on June 8. The inspirational film was well recieved in India and in the overseas market, so the makers believe that it will do well at the China box office. However, this being Akshay Kumar’s first release in the country, they have gone ahead with a limited and targeted strategy. The makers are planning to release Toilet Ek Prem Katha (titled Toilet Hero for the Chinese audience) in just 4300 screen across China. The makers want to maximise profits by releasing in less yet impactful centres. And if the word of mouth publicity picks up, they might increase the screen space in the coming weeks. Talking about the screen space, trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed on Twitter, “#ToiletEkPremKatha opens in China this Friday (8 June 2018) across 4300 screens. Titled #ToiletHero for the local audiences.”

And though this is a decent screen space, Toilet Ek Prem Katha has got the smallest Indian release in recent times! If you look at the screen space that every Bollywood film has got in the last three years, you will realise that every movie has released in more than 6000 screens. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is the widest Indian release in China as it released in 8000 plus screens. Baahuabli 2 (7000 plus screens), Dangal (7000 screens) and Secret Superstar (6000 plus screens) follow suit. Looking at this, its quite clear that Toilet Ek Prem Katha is the smallest Indian release (4300 screens) in China over the past few years. However, we still feel that with an inspirational message associated with the film, Toilet Ek Prem Katha will open well and rake in nearly Rs 50 – 100 crore at the China box office. It can go over and above this too, but it all depends on the word of mouth publicity it receives.
